Another wonderful and delicious recipe from one of my Amish cookbooks (the Amish are really great cooks). Besides bone-in chicken pieces, you can also use boneless, skinless chicken breasts; I've also used these and they turned out great!

This is a great way to "fry" that chicken without all of the splatter on top of the stove. A good recipe, and I think it is good cold too.

This is my husband's favorite meal for me to cook. The chicken is so moist and flavorful. The more seasonings you use the better it tastes. Mayo may cause some areas to be a little mushy but it still tastes amazing!

Amish oven crusted chicken recipes are a delicious and hearty meal that is perfect for any occasion. These recipes are typically made with a combination of fresh ingredients and a crunchy coating that gives the chicken a flavorful and crispy texture. While making this dish is relatively easy, there are a few tips that can help ensure its success. In this article, we will explore some valuable tips to consider when making Amish oven crusted chicken recipes.

Tips

1. Use Fresh Ingredients

The key to making delicious Amish oven crusted chicken is to use fresh ingredients. This means starting with fresh chicken, choosing the best quality vegetables and herbs, and using fresh spices whenever possible. Fresh ingredients will not only give your dish a better flavor, but they will also make it healthier and more nutritious.

How to Choose Fresh Chicken?

The first step to ensuring that your chicken is fresh is to look at the packaging. Check the date, and make sure that the chicken has been stored properly. You should also inspect the chicken for any discoloration or foul odor.

What are the Best Vegetables and Herbs to Use?

When it comes to vegetables and herbs, you should use whatever is in season and readily available. Some popular options include bell peppers, onions, garlic, cilantro, rosemary, and thyme. Fresh vegetables and herbs will give your dish a burst of flavor and nutrients that you just can't get from the canned or dried alternatives.

Why Use Fresh Spices?

Fresh spices are not only more flavorful, but they also contain more health benefits. When spices are dried, they lose some of their nutrients, so using fresh spices is always preferred. Some of the best spices to use in Amish oven crusted chicken recipes include cumin, paprika, chili powder, and coriander.

2. Brine the Chicken

Brining is a crucial step in making tender, juicy chicken. Brining involves soaking the chicken in a mixture of salt, sugar, and water for several hours before cooking. During this time, the chicken absorbs the liquid and the flavors, which helps it stay moist and tender during cooking.

How to Brine Chicken?

To brine chicken, you'll need a large bowl, a zip-top bag, and the brine ingredients. In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons of salt, and 2 tablespoons of sugar until the sugar and salt have dissolved. Add the chicken to the bowl, making sure it is completely submerged in the brine. Seal the bowl with plastic wrap or cover with the zip-top bag, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.

3. Preheat the Oven and Use a Baking Dish

Preheating the oven is an essential step in cooking Amish oven crusted chicken. Preheating ensures that the chicken will cook evenly and thoroughly, and it also helps to promote the crunchy and crispy texture of the crust. Another important factor to consider is the type of baking dish. The type of baking dish you use can make a significant difference in the texture and flavor of the dish.

Why is Preheating Important?

Preheating the oven ensures that the chicken will cook evenly and thoroughly. If you do not preheat the oven, the chicken may cook unevenly, resulting in some pieces being overcooked and others undercooked. A preheated oven allows the chicken to cook at an even and consistent temperature, which helps to promote the crunchy and crispy texture of the crust.

What Type of Baking Dish Should You Use?

The type of baking dish you use can make a significant difference in the texture and flavor of the dish. For the best results, choose a baking dish that is deep enough to hold the chicken and the coating. A glass baking dish is ideal because it helps to distribute the heat evenly, and it also allows you to see the chicken as it cooks.

4. Use a Tasty Coating

The coating is what gives Amish oven crusted chicken its signature crunch and flavor. The coating typically consists of a combination of flour, breadcrumbs, and spices. While you can use any combination of ingredients that you like, there are a few tips to keep in mind when choosing a coating.

What Ingredients Should You Use in the Coating?

The ingredients you choose for the coating will depend on your personal preferences. Some popular options include flour, panko breadcrumbs, cornmeal, and spices like paprika, garlic powder, and cumin. When choosing your ingredients, make sure that they are well coated and evenly distributed over the chicken.

How to Make Sure the Coating Sticks to the Chicken?

To ensure that the coating sticks to the chicken, you should pat the chicken dry with paper towels before coating it. This will remove any excess moisture that may prevent the coating from sticking. You should also press the coating firmly onto the chicken to ensure that it adheres well.

5. Don't Skimp on the Seasonings

The key to making delicious Amish oven crusted chicken is to use plenty of seasonings. The chicken should be well seasoned both inside and out, with a combination of spices and herbs that complement its flavor. Don't be afraid to experiment with different seasonings to find the perfect blend for you.

What Seasonings Should You Use?

The seasonings you use will depend on your personal preferences. Some popular options include garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cumin, and coriander. You can also use fresh herbs like rosemary and thyme, which will give your chicken a more robust flavor.

How to Season the Chicken?

To season the chicken, you should generously sprinkle the spice mixture over the chicken, making sure to rub it into the skin and inside the cavity. It's important to remember that the seasoning should be applied evenly, so be sure to pay attention to the areas that are most difficult to reach, such as the back of the chicken.

Conclusion

Making Amish oven crusted chicken is a wonderful way to enjoy a delicious and satisfying meal. While making this dish is relatively easy, there are a few tips that can help ensure its success. By using fresh ingredients, brining the chicken, preheating the oven, using a baking dish, using a tasty coating, and not skimping on the seasonings, you can create a meal that is sure to impress your family and friends.
