One of those is stuffing them with a light garlic and herb mixture to make Alouette light garlic herbs stuffed tomatoes. This recipe is a great option for a healthy and flavorful meal or appetizer. In this article, we will go over some valuable tips to consider when making these stuffed tomatoes. Tip 1: Choose the Right Tomatoes When selecting tomatoes for this recipe, it is important to choose ones that are ripe but still firm. You don't want them to be too soft or they will fall apart when you try to hollow them out. Additionally, it is recommended to choose tomatoes that are slightly larger in size as they will hold more stuffing. Tip 2: Prep the tomatoes Before Stuffing Before stuffing the tomatoes, you need to prepare them properly. Start by slicing off the tops of the tomatoes and hollowing out the insides with a small spoon. Hollowing it out too much is not necessary as you don't want to tear through the flesh of the tomato. It is important to keep the tomato shell intact. Tip 3: Use the Right Herbs Using the right herbs is crucial to making a delicious stuffed tomato. A great combination of herbs to use for this recipe is thyme, oregano, and basil. These herbs compliment the garlic and the cheese filling of the tomatoes. Tip 4: Mix the Cheese Filling Properly One of the main ingredients in this recipe is the Alouette cheese filling. It is important to mix it properly to get a smooth and creamy texture. The best way to ensure this is to let the cheese come to room temperature before mixing. This will allow it to soften, making it easier to mix. Additionally, you can add a small amount of milk to the cheese mixture to make it smoother. Tip 5: Minimize Moisture When cooking the tomatoes, it is important to minimize any excess moisture. Excess moisture can make the filling soggy and ruin the texture. To avoid this, sprinkle the inside of the tomato shells with salt and let them sit for a few minutes. This will draw out any excess moisture from the tomatoes. Additionally, you can place a piece of paper towel on the bottom of the baking dish to absorb any excess moisture. Tip 6: Precook the Tomatoes To ensure that the tomatoes are cooked properly and the cheese filling is melted, it is recommended to pre-cook the tomatoes before baking them. This can be done by placing the hollowed-out tomatoes in a baking dish and baking them in the oven for 5-10 minutes before filling them with the cheese mixture. This will help soften the tomatoes and begin the cooking process. Tip 7: Serve Hot For the best flavor and texture, these stuffed tomatoes are best served hot. You can make them ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake them. Just be sure to bring them to room temperature before placing them in the oven to ensure even cooking.
