Time 20m

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pound ground beef (80% lean)
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
2 slices Cheddar cheese
2 extra-long hot dog buns
4 teaspoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup

Steps:

  • Place half the ground beef on a sheet of plastic wrap. Pat it into a rectangular shape, about 1/2 inch thick, 8 1/2 inches long, and 4 inches wide. Season with salt and pepper. Roll the beef into a log, using the plastic wrap as a guide. Season with more salt and pepper. Wrap the plastic tightly around the log and twist both ends tight. Pat gently to slightly flatten. Repeat with remaining ground beef.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate. Remove the burger dogs from the plastic wrap and place on the grill, perpendicular to the grates. Cook until burgers are browned but still pink inside, 4 to 5 minutes, flip, and cook another 2 to 3 minutes. Place a slice of cheese on each burger dog and grill to medium doneness (an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 140 degrees F/60 degrees C). Remove and rest 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Toast hot dog buns on the grill and spread each with 2 teaspoons mayonnaise. Place burger dog on each bun and squirt 1 tablespoon of ketchup on top.

Time 40m

Yield 4 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1/2 large white onion, chopped
8 ounces ground beef
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 cup canned diced tomatoes
1 1/2 teaspoons tomato paste
8 hot dogs
8 split hot dog buns
4 ounces shredded Cheddar
Ketchup and mustard, for serving

Steps:

  • For the chili: Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring frequently, until soft and translucent, about 8 minutes. Add the beef and garlic and cook, stirring and breaking up into smaller pieces with a wooden spoon, until the meat is brown and cooked through, about 5 minutes. Add the chili powder, cayenne, cumin, 1/2 teaspoon salt and a few grinds of pepper and cook, stirring, until well combined, about 1 minute.
  • Add the tomatoes, tomato paste and 1/2 cup water to the pot. Stir well and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to medium-low and simmer, uncovered and stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and keep warm.
  • For the chili dogs: Preheat a grill or large grill pan to medium. Grill the hot dogs according to the package directions until grill marks appear and the hot dogs are warmed through, about 5 minutes. Working in batches, if necessary, grill the cut side of the buns until golden and toasted, about 1 minute. Build the hot dogs and top each with about 1/4 cup of chili spooned down the length of the hot dog. Sprinkle each with some cheese and serve with ketchup and mustard.

ALL AMERICAN CHILI CHEESE BURGER DOG

All American Chili Cheese Burger Dog image

Who doesn't love hot dogs and hamburgers? I love them both, but I can never eat both, only one. Well...not anymore, now I can have my favorite hot dog, and my burger too! This burger is based on my favorite way to eat a hot dog: chili cheese with onions. You can turn this into your favorite burger dog too!

Categories     Burgers

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 8

ground chuck
1-2 weiners per burger, your favorite brand
**chili, homemade or store bought
**grated cheddar cheese
**diced onions
hamburger buns
OTHER TOPPING IDEAS
ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, kraut, mayo, slice jalapenos...the sky is the limit!

Steps:

  • 1. Slice your wieners across ways. Season your meat as you normally would, divide meat into number of equal portions for the number of burgers you plan to cook.
  • 2. Now the tricky part. I thought these cow patties would good together just like normal, wrong!! They apparently have an adverse reaction to the wieners. They don't particularly want to hold together. Not wanting to add an egg, I did manage to manipulate one burger together, and added more wieners to it once I got it shaped.
  • 3. The other ones, I cut each burger portion in half, made a patty, added the wieners on top, then made another patty and covered the first one. Hence, the wieners were inside like you would put cheese inside two patties. If you use this method, be sure to seal the edges all the way around.
  • 4. Grill your burger to perfection, depending on your taste. https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/beef/flame-broiled-burger.html?p=1
  • 5. This is what your little mooing dogs will look like.
  • 6. Add chili, grated cheese, and diced onion, place on baking sheet in 400° oven for about 4-5 min. to melt cheese and heat bun.
  • 7. Get a little wild and put all your favorite hot dog toppings on your newly addicting "Burger Dog".

Tips for Preparing the Meat

When it comes to making a great chili cheese burger dog, the meat is the most important ingredient. Here are some valuable tips to help you prepare the meat perfect every time:
1. Choose the Right Meat
The first step in making a great chili cheese burger dog is choosing the right meat. You want to use a high-quality ground beef that is at least 80% lean and 20% fat. This will give your burgers plenty of flavor and juiciness without being too fatty.
2. Don't Overwork the Meat
When you're mixing the meat with your seasonings, make sure to handle it as little as possible. Overworking the meat can make it tough and dry, so use a light touch and mix everything together just until it's combined.
3. Season Generously
To make sure your burgers have plenty of flavor, don't be afraid to season them generously. Use plenty of salt and pepper, and consider adding some garlic powder, onion powder, or other spices to give your burgers a little extra kick.
4. Make Evenly Sized Patties
To ensure that your burgers cook evenly, make sure to form them into evenly sized patties. Use a kitchen scale to weigh out each patty, or use a burger press to make sure they're all the same size and shape.

Tips for Cooking the Burgers

Once you've prepared your meat, it's time to cook your burgers. Here are some tips to help you cook them perfectly:
1. Use a Hot Grill
The key to getting a great sear on your burgers is to use a hot grill. Preheat your grill to high heat, and let it heat up for at least 10-15 minutes before you start cooking your burgers.
2. Don't Flip Too Often
When you're grilling your burgers, resist the temptation to flip them too often. You want to give them plenty of time to sear and develop a crust, so flip them only once or twice during the cooking process.
3. Use a Meat Thermometer
To ensure that your burgers are cooked to the right temperature, use a meat thermometer to check their internal temperature. For medium-rare burgers, aim for an internal temperature of 130-135°F. For medium burgers, aim for 140-145°F.
4. Let Them Rest
After you've finished grilling your burgers, let them rest for a few minutes before you start assembling your chili cheese burger dogs. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making for a juicier and more flavorful burger.

Tips for Assembling the Chili Cheese Burger Dogs

Now that you've got your perfectly cooked burgers, it's time to assemble your chili cheese burger dogs. Here are some tips to help you put them together:
1. Choose the Right Buns
To make sure your chili cheese burger dogs hold together well, be sure to use sturdy buns that can stand up to all the toppings. A toasted brioche or potato bun works well for this.
2. Add Lots of Toppings
When it comes to chili cheese burger dogs, the toppings are key. Be generous with your toppings, adding plenty of chili, cheese, diced onions, and other toppings to give your burgers plenty of flavor and texture.
3. Keep it Neat
As you're assembling your chili cheese burger dogs, be sure to keep everything neat and tidy. Use a toothpick or bamboo skewer to hold everything in place, and consider wrapping the whole thing in a piece of parchment or foil to make it easier to eat.
4. Serve with Fries and a Cold Drink
When it's time to enjoy your chili cheese burger dogs, be sure to serve them with some crispy fries and a cold drink. This will help balance out the richness of the burger and give you a complete, satisfying meal.

Conclusion

Making the ultimate all-American chili cheese burger dogs takes a little bit of time and effort, but the results are well worth it.
