Air fryers have made cooking easier and healthier with their ability to fry, roast, bake, and grill food without the use of oil. When it comes to making roast chicken, the air fryer is an excellent kitchen appliance that delivers juicy and delicious chicken in no time. However, to get the perfect air fryer roast chicken, there are certain tips you need to follow.

Tip 1: Choose the right chicken

When making air fryer roast chicken, it is essential to choose the right size of chicken. Larger chickens take longer to cook and may not fit in the air fryer basket. On the other hand, smaller chickens may dry out too quickly. Therefore, it is recommended to use a chicken weighing between 3-4 pounds. Also, ensure that the chicken is fresh and has been properly cleaned.

Tip 2: Seasoning

For the best air fryer roast chicken, seasoning is key. You can choose to use any seasoning of your choice, but it is essential to be generous with your seasoning. The seasoning should be applied to the whole chicken, including under the skin, to ensure that the flavor is distributed evenly. You can use a marinade or dry rub, depending on your preference. Some popular seasonings for roast chicken include garlic, herbs, paprika, salt, and pepper.

Tip 3: Preheat the air fryer

Preheating the air fryer is essential to ensure that the chicken cooks evenly. Preheating the air fryer for 3-5 minutes before cooking the chicken will ensure that the air fryer is at the right temperature. Failure to preheat the air fryer can result in uneven cooking, and the chicken may not cook all the way through.

Tip 4: Truss the chicken

Trussing the chicken involves tying the chicken legs together with kitchen twine. Trussing is essential as it helps to keep the chicken moist and promotes even cooking. It also helps the chicken to maintain its shape and ensures that it cooks thoroughly.

Tip 5: Use a meat thermometer

Using a meat thermometer is essential when cooking any type of meat, including chicken. When cooking a chicken, the thickest part of the thigh should register 165℉ (73℃). Using a meat thermometer ensures that the chicken is cooked thoroughly and eliminates the risk of undercooked chicken.

Tip 6: Flip the chicken halfway through cooking

Flipping the chicken halfway through cooking ensures that it cooks evenly on all sides. Flipping also helps to promote the crispiness of the skin. When flipping, use tongs or a spatula to avoid piercing the skin and losing the juices.

Tip 7: Baste the chicken

Basting the chicken involves brushing it with oil, butter or chicken broth during cooking. Basting helps to keep the chicken moist and adds flavor to the chicken. You can also add garlic or herbs to the basting liquid to enhance the flavor.

Tip 8: Rest the chicken

Resting the chicken after cooking is essential as it allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a juicier chicken. The chicken should be rested for at least 10-15 minutes before carving.

Tip 9: Air fryer size

The size of your air fryer will determine the size of the chicken that you can cook. It is essential to ensure that the chicken fits comfortably in the air fryer basket without touching the walls. If the chicken is too big, it may not cook thoroughly, and if it is too small, it may dry out too quickly.

Tip 10: Clean the air fryer

After cooking, it is essential to clean the air fryer to ensure that it remains in good condition. You can use warm soapy water or a dishwasher to clean the air fryer. Make sure to remove any grease or food particles that may have accumulated in the air fryer.

Conclusion

Using an air fryer to make roast chicken is quick, easy and delivers delicious juicy chicken. Following these tips ensures that you get the best results every time. Remember to choose the right chicken size, season generously, preheat the air fryer, truss, flip, baste, use a meat thermometer, rest the chicken, consider the size of the air fryer, and clean the air fryer after cooking. With these tips, you are guaranteed to make the best air fryer roast chicken recipe.
