AIR FRYER BACON WRAPPED JALAPEñO POPPERS

Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers image

How big your jalapeños are will determine how much filling you need. You may have some leftover. You can use for a future batch or to stuff mushrooms or other delicious uses. If desired, you can use just a half slice of bacon per popper, but we prefer a whole slice. If using a half slice, you may need to stretch the bacon it get it to wrap around the popper nicely. All air fryers are different and some cook much hotter than others. Once you cook your first batch, you'll know more of what works for your model of air fryer and size of food.

AIR FRYER JALAPEñO POPPERS

Air Fryer Jalapeño Poppers image

We have a high bar for jalapeño poppers, and this easy air-fryer version surpasses it. In our books the jalapeño itself needs to be cooked through but still sturdy enough to support all the filling. This recipe calls for large jalapeños, which fit more filling than smaller ones and tend to be sturdier. The molten cheese will not spill out of these poppers thanks to the way they are filled and rested for a few minutes in the air fryer after cooking. Finally, the breadcrumb coating remains crispy for a very long time because of the addition of crushed kettle potato chips.

Categories     appetizer

Time 20m

Yield 8 servings (24 poppers)

Number Of Ingredients 7

12 large jalapeño peppers (at least 4 inches in length)
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
5 ounces extra-sharp yellow Cheddar, grated
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs seasoned with Pecorino Romano
1/2 cup finely crushed kettle potato chips
Nonstick cooking spray
2 tablespoons bacon bits or freshly cooked, crumbled bacon

Steps:

  • Working with disposable rubber gloves to protect your skin, halve each jalapeño lengthwise, slicing through the stem. Remove the seeds and white ribs with a spoon or small melon baller. Arrange the halves on a baking sheet rounded sides down. If any of the halves tilt sideways instead of standing straight up, slice a sliver of skin off the rounded side, making sure not to cut through to the cavity, so they sit level.
  • Add the cream cheese and Cheddar to a small bowl and mix together with a rubber spatula until combined. Stir together the breadcrumbs and potato chips in a medium bowl.
  • Divide the cream cheese mixture among the jalapeño halves, smoothing it down with your finger or the back of a butter knife so the filling is level with the top of the jalapeno, not mounded. (You may have extra filling depending on how large your jalapenos are.) Firmly press the breadcrumb mixture over the cream cheese to fully coat. Spray the breadcrumbs with nonstick spray.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F and set to cook for 4 minutes. Arrange the poppers in a single layer in the basket so they're not touching, working in batches if necessary. Air fry the poppers without opening the basket to check on them. When the air fryer turns off, let the poppers sit in the basket for another 4 minutes without opening the machine. (this will allow the poppers to cool slightly and the cheese to set so it doesn't slide out-don't worry, it'll still be gooey.)
  • Carefully open the air fryer basket and remove each popper with a spatula. Serve the poppers sprinkled with the bacon.

KETO AIR FRYER JALAPENO POPPERS

Keto Air Fryer Jalapeno Poppers image

Three ingredients and 10 minutes in your air fryer are what's needed to make these keto-friendly, bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers. Try different flavors of cream cheese for variety! Thick-cut bacon does not work well, so use regular bacon. Halving the bacon lengthwise makes it easier to wrap around the peppers.

Air fryer pepper poppers are a healthy and delicious snack that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of their dietary restrictions. These snacks are made from peppers that are stuffed with a variety of ingredients, such as cheese, breadcrumbs, and other vegetables, and then cooked in an air fryer. Not only are these snacks easy to prepare, but they are also a great way to get a serving of vegetables into your diet.
How to Make Air Fryer Pepper Poppers
To make air fryer pepper poppers, first, select the type of pepper you would like to use. Jalapenos, poblano, and banana peppers are all popular choices for making poppers. Once you have your peppers, wash them thoroughly and cut them in half lengthwise. Remove the seeds and membranes from the peppers, as this is where most of the heat comes from. Next, choose the filling for your poppers. Popular fillings include cheese, breadcrumbs, bacon, and herbs. Mix the ingredients together until they are well combined, then fill each pepper half with the mixture. Place the pepper halves in the air fryer basket and cook at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 12-15 minutes, or until the peppers are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious and healthy snack.
The Health Benefits of Air Fryer Pepper Poppers
One of the major benefits of air fryer pepper poppers is that they are a healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried snacks. Instead of being soaked in oil and battered, these snacks are cooked in an air fryer, with little to no oil required. This means that they are lower in calories and fat, making them a great option for anyone who is trying to maintain a healthy diet. In addition to being low in calories and fat, air fryer pepper poppers are also high in fiber and vitamins. The peppers themselves are a good source of fiber, which can help to promote digestive health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.
Variations on Air Fryer Pepper Poppers
While the classic cheese-filled air fryer pepper poppers are a popular choice, there are many variations on this snack that you can try. Here are a few ideas to get you started: - Buffalo Chicken Poppers: Fill your peppers with a mixture of chicken, cheese, and buffalo sauce for a spicy twist on the classic popper. - Mexican Poppers: Use poblano peppers and fill them with a mixture of black beans, corn, and cheese for a south-of-the-border flavor. - Mediterranean Poppers: Stuff your peppers with a mixture of feta cheese, olives, and herbs for a refreshing and healthy snack.

Air fryer pepper poppers are a simple yet delicious snack that can be enjoyed by everyone. Made with jalapeño peppers, cream cheese and a variety of other ingredients, these poppers are crispy, flavorful and pack a bit of heat. However, making the perfect pepper poppers can be a challenge, especially if you're new to using an air fryer. In this article, we'll explore some valuable tips and tricks that will help you create a mouth-watering batch of pepper poppers every time.

Tip #1: Choose the Right Peppers

The first step to making great air fryer pepper poppers is to choose the right type of peppers. While jalapeño peppers are the most popular choice, you can also use poblano or serrano peppers if you prefer them milder or spicier. When selecting your peppers, make sure that they are firm and have a shiny, smooth skin. Avoid peppers that are wrinkled or soft as they may be overripe.

Tip #2: Prep Your Peppers

Once you have your peppers, the next step is to prep them for stuffing. Start by washing them thoroughly under running water and patting them dry with a paper towel. Next, slice off the stem end of each pepper and use a small spoon to remove the seeds and membranes. Be careful when handling the peppers as the oils can irritate your skin and eyes. You may want to wear gloves while doing this.

Tip #3: Experiment with Fillings

The filling is what sets your pepper poppers apart from the rest. While the classic cream cheese filling is always a crowd-pleaser, there are many other fillings that you can try. For example, you can mix cream cheese with shredded cheddar cheese, bacon bits or chopped herbs for added flavor. You can also experiment with different types of meat like ground sausage, chicken or beef. The possibilities are endless, so get creative and find a filling that you love.

Tip #4: Avoid Overstuffing

When stuffing your peppers, it's important to avoid overstuffing them. The peppers should be lightly filled so that they can cook evenly in the air fryer. If you overstuff them, the filling may ooze out and make a mess, and the peppers may not cook properly. Aim to fill each pepper about 2/3 full, leaving some room for air to circulate around the filling.

Tip #5: Prepare a Dipping Sauce

While pepper poppers are delicious on their own, they are even better when paired with a dipping sauce. There are many dipping sauces that you can make, depending on your taste preferences. Some popular options include ranch dressing, BBQ sauce or honey mustard. You can also make a simple dip by mixing sour cream with some chopped herbs or hot sauce.

Tip #6: Preheat Your Air Fryer

To ensure that your pepper poppers cook evenly, it's important to preheat your air fryer before adding the peppers. This will help to create a crispy exterior while keeping the filling moist and tender. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for a few minutes before adding the peppers. This will also help to reduce the cooking time.

Tip #7: Arrange the Peppers Properly

When placing the peppers in the air fryer, it's important to arrange them properly. Make sure that they are not touching each other and that there is some space between them. This will allow the hot air to circulate around each pepper, ensuring that they cook evenly. If you have a large batch of peppers, you may need to cook them in multiple batches.

Tip #8: Keep an Eye on Cooking Time

The cooking time for your pepper poppers will depend on a variety of factors, including the size of the peppers and the temperature of your air fryer. However, a good rule of thumb is to cook them for around 10-12 minutes, flipping them over halfway through the cooking time. Be sure to check on them regularly to avoid overcooking or burning them.

Tip #9: Let Them Cool Down

Once your pepper poppers are finished cooking, it's important to let them cool down for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the filling to set and make them easier to handle. Be careful when biting into them as the filling may still be hot!

Conclusion

Air fryer pepper poppers are a delicious and versatile snack that can be enjoyed by anyone. By following these valuable tips and tricks, you can make a perfect batch of pepper poppers every time. Remember to choose the right peppers, experiment with fillings, preheat your air fryer and keep an eye on the cooking time. With a little practice, you'll be able to create a crowd-pleasing appetizer that everyone will love.
