ARUGULA SALAD WITH PARMESAN

Arugula Salad With Parmesan image

Emulsifying a dressing isn't essential for a sublime salad: Instead, think of the oil and acid as seasonings for a vegetable. For this recipe, that's spicy arugula, dressed with olive oil, lemon and shards of Parmesan to create a salad classic in many Italian restaurants and homes. But whether olive oil or lemon should come first, like all seemingly simple questions, is complicated. James Beard, Marcella Hazan, Deborah Madison and Judy Rodgers all concurred: For a brighter-tasting salad, start with olive oil, which better adheres the liquids to the greens and doesn't obscure the lemon. Be sure to use full-flavored greens, then taste the dressed leaves and adjust seasonings until the arugula tastes like its greatest self.

Time 5m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 to 5 ounces baby arugula
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus more as needed
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice, plus more as needed
Kosher salt (such as Diamond Crystal)
2 ounces Parmesan, shaved with a vegetable peeler

Steps:

  • Place the arugula in a very large bowl, ideally one that could hold twice as many leaves. Drizzle over the olive oil and use your hands to toss lightly, then add the lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Lightly toss the greens until they are evenly glossy; avoid overmixing or crushing the greens.
  • Add the Parmesan and toss just to incorporate. Taste. If the salad is too sharp, add another drop of oil and toss. If the salad is dull, add a sprinkle of salt and some lemon juice and toss. Eat right away.

Salads are an incredibly versatile and healthy meal option. Whether you're looking for a quick lunch or a light dinner, there are countless ingredients that can be combined to create a delicious and nutritious salad. One such salad that is gaining popularity is the arugula rocket cherry tomato and sesame seed recipe. In this article, we will explore some valuable tips to keep in mind when making this salad.
1. Choosing the right arugula and rocket
The first step to making a great arugula rocket cherry tomato and sesame seed salad is to choose the right greens. Both arugula and rocket are popular greens for salads, but they can vary in flavor and texture. When selecting arugula, look for leaves that are dark green and have a slightly spicy flavor. Rocket, on the other hand, has a peppery taste and is a bit more bitter. When mixing these two greens together, it is important to balance the flavors properly to create a well-rounded salad.
2. Picking the perfect cherry tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes are the perfect addition to this salad, but choosing the right ones is crucial. Look for tomatoes that are firm and plump, with a bright red color. Avoid tomatoes that are too soft or wrinkled, as they may not be as flavorful. You can also try using different types of cherry tomatoes, such as yellow or orange, to add some color and variety to your salad.
3. Toasting your sesame seeds
Toasting your sesame seeds is an excellent way to enhance their flavor and aroma. This can be done easily by heating a dry pan over medium heat and adding the sesame seeds. Stir them frequently until they turn golden brown and release their aroma. Be sure to watch them closely, as they can burn quickly. Toasted sesame seeds add a nutty and rich flavor to salads, making them the perfect addition to this recipe.
4. Choosing the right dressing
Choosing the right dressing is important when making this salad. A simple vinaigrette made with olive oil, vinegar, and honey is a great option that complements the peppery greens and sweet cherry tomatoes. You can also experiment with different dressings to find the perfect one for your taste.
5. Adding protein
To make this salad a more satisfying meal, consider adding some protein. Grilled chicken or shrimp are excellent options that pair well with the flavors of the arugula, rocket, and cherry tomatoes. You can also try adding some tofu or chickpeas for a vegetarian or vegan option.
6. Incorporating other ingredients
While the arugula rocket cherry tomato and sesame seed salad is delicious on its own, you can also try incorporating other ingredients for added flavor and texture. Feta cheese or goat cheese are excellent options that add a creamy and tangy flavor to the salad. Avocado or cucumber can also be added for some fresh and cool flavors. Be sure to experiment with different ingredients to find the perfect combination for your taste.
7. Serving and presentation
Lastly, serving and presentation can make a big difference in how your salad is received. To make it look more appealing, consider arranging the arugula, rocket, and cherry tomatoes in a colorful and visually pleasing way. You can also try sprinkling the toasted sesame seeds on top for some added texture and flavor. When serving, be sure to toss the salad with the dressing just before serving to ensure that everything is evenly coated.

Conclusion

The arugula rocket cherry tomato and sesame seed salad is a healthy and delicious option that is easy to make. By keeping these valuable tips in mind, you can create a well-balanced salad that is packed with flavor and nutrition. Experiment with different ingredients and dressings to find the perfect combination for your taste. Enjoy!
