Baby bok choy is halved and caramelized in a sauce reduced from chicken stock, white wine, and garlic. Impressive for a dinner party, easy for a family dinner.

3 tablespoons butter
1 clove garlic, smashed
1 bay leaf
2 cups chicken stock
1 cup white wine
1 pound baby bok choy, trimmed and sliced in half lengthwise

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat, and cook and stir the garlic and bay leaf until the garlic is lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Stir in the chicken stock and white wine, and increase heat to a full boil. Cook the sauce, stirring often, until reduced to 1 cup, about 15 minutes. Remove bay leaf. Lay the bok choy halves, cut sides down, into the sauce, and reduce heat to a simmer. Cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Serve with sauce spooned over bok choy.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 pounds bok choy or baby bok choy
1 1/2 tablespoons canola, vegetable or peanut oil
1-2 cloves garlic, finely minced
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
3 tablespoons broth or water (or 2 tablespoons broth/water + 1 tablespoon wine)
salt to taste
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

Steps:

  • 1. thinly slice Bok choy 2. Mince garlic and grate fresh ginger with a microplane grater. (tip peal ginger with a spoon) 3. Add cooking oil garlic and ginger to COLD wok then Turn the heat to medium-high. Let the ginger and garlic gently sizzle in the oil unitl fragrant and light golden brown 4.Add the bok choy leaves. Toss very well to coat each leaf for about 15 seconds. 5.Pour in broth, water or wine. Immediately cover and let cook for 1 minute. Season with salt and drizzle a bit of sesame oil on top.
