½ cup butter, melted
¾ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
12 slices sandwich bread
6 eggs
½ cup milk
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with melted butter. Spread any remaining melted butter over bottom of dish.
  • Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon evenly over melted butter.
  • Arrange bread in two layers over brown sugar mixture.
  • Beat eggs, milk, and salt in a bowl; pour over bread.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 minutes.

1 cup drained jarred high-quality maraschino cherries, such as Luxardo
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons sugar
2 strips lemon peel (using a peeler)
1 cup dark rum
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
3 large eggs, beaten
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 tablespoons honey
Two 1 1/2-inch thick challah bread slices
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Confectioners' sugar, for dusting
2 lemons, zested

Steps:

  • Combine the cherries, lemon juice, sugar and lemon strips in a small saucepan over low heat. Cook until the mixture has thickened, about 20 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat, add the rum and return it to the heat to burn off the alcohol, about 1 minute or until the flame is gone.
  • Whisk together the milk, cream, eggs, almond extract and honey in a shallow bowl. Soak the bread in the custard mixture.
  • Heat the butter in a large saute pan wide enough to fit both pieces of bread over medium heat until frothing. Drain off the excess custard from the bread, add the slices to the pan and cook the on both sides until golden brown, 4 to 5 minutes a side.
  • Finish in a 375 degrees F oven if the center is still wet, 5 minutes at most.
  • Serve by placing the French toast on a platter, along with the cherries jubilee sauce. Finish with the zest of the lemons and a dusting of confectioners' sugar.

1 loaf white bread
4 cups frozen door county cherries, rinsed and drained
16 ounces softened cream cheese
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup granulated sugar, divided
2 teaspoons almond extract, divided
1/2 loaf french bread
7 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups half-and-half
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 cup sliced almonds

Steps:

  • 1. Cut the loaf of white bread into cubes. Place the cubes into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan. Spread the cherries over the bread. Microwave the cream cheese to soften it. Add 1/2 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon almond extract and sour cream to cream cheese. Spread over cherries. Cut ten 1-inch slices of French bread. Place the slices over the cherries. Beat the eggs well; add the remaining 1/2 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon almond extract, the milk and cream, and beat again. Pour the egg and milk mixture over the French bread slices. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Bake covered with aluminum foil for for 40 to 50 minutes, then uncovered for the last 10 minutes to brown slightly. Let set for about 10 minutes. Sprinkle top with powdered sugar and sliced almonds before slicing into squares.

1/2 loaf French bread

1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups half-and-half
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons dark corn syrup
1 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Cut the loaf of white bread into cubes.
  • Place the cubes into a greased 9x13 pan.
  • Spread the cherries over the bread.
  • Cut ten 1-inch slices of French bread, place the slices over the cherries.
  • Beat the eggs well, add the milk, sugar, cream, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and beat again.
  • Pour the egg and milk mixture over the French bread slices.
  • To the melted butter add the brown sugar, corn syrup, and walnuts.
  • Spread this topping on the bread.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Bake uncovered for 50-60 minutes.
  • Cover with foil for the last 15 minutes to keep it from getting too brown.
  • Let set for about 10 minutes before slicing into 10 servings.
