BAKED SWEET POTATO CHIPS

Baked Sweet Potato Chips image

Homemade chips will liven up all of your parties and family get-togethers as a salty, crunchy snack. There's no deep-frying required here, and they come together in less than half an hour. The best part is that all you need is sweet potatoes, vegetable oil, and salt to make them. You can have homemade chips on hand whenever the craving hits. We recommend thinly slicing the potatoes in a food processor or with a mandoline, but you can do it by hand too if you prefer. If any leftover chips become soggy, simply put them back in a hot oven for a few minutes.

I had these once at Cheeseburge in Paradise and I fell in love with them. However, ever the health nut, I have attempted to make a lower-calorie verson. They're just as good as the deep-fried ones, but much better for you! Only about 130 calories per serving!

THE REALTOR'S BAKED SWEET POTATO CHIPS

The Realtor's Baked Sweet Potato Chips image

These are much healthier than fried chips and they taste great. You can vary the flavor by using different spices. Try taco seasoning, garlic, cinnamon... the variations are endless. We like them with just salt and pepper. The thickness you make them will greatly effect the baking time. If you do them with a vegetable peeler, they'll take about 20 minutes. If you slice them in super thin slices, they'll take about 30 minutes. Just watch them until you get them just right.

OVEN BAKED SWEET POTATO CHIPS

Oven Baked Sweet Potato Chips image

Guilt-free snack! These chips are made without any fat. For attractive circular chips, look for sweet potatoes that are round rather than long. I think these are even yummier than regular potato chips...

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 1h29m

Yield 36 chips, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 large sweet potato, unpeeled, washed, and dried (about 9 ounces)
salt & freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 200°F with two racks.
  • Line two baking pans with parchment paper, and set aside.
  • Slice potato crosswise, as thin as possible.
  • Arrange the slices on the prepared sheets, and keep them from touching as much as possible.
  • Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Cook for 50 minutes.
  • Slices will dehydrate and shrink; turn chips over, and rotate baking sheets if needed for even cooking.
  • Cook until slices are crisped and fluted around the edges and the centers are still orange, not brown, 30 to 40 more minutes.
  • Transfer to cooling racks, and cool chips on baking sheets.
  • (Chips will be soft when removed from oven and will crisp as they cool.) Store in an airtight container, at room temperature, up to 3 days.
