Turkey, Bacon and Havarti Sandwich image

I love havarti (and bacon and turkey!) and this is an excellent sandwich. If you can't find havarti, muenster can be substituted. I also use the precooked bacon, heated up in the microwave according to package directions. The sandwich can be made ahead. Chilling time is not included in the prep or cook time. The recipe is adapted from a magazine.

1 (7 inch) round sourdough loaf
1/4 cup balsamic vinaigrette (use a good quality brand)
1/2 lb thinly sliced deli smoked turkey
1 (12 ounce) jar roasted red peppers, drained and sliced
6 slices havarti cheese
4 slices cooked bacon
dill pickle spear

Steps:

  • Cut top 2 inches off sourdough loaf, reserving top; hollow out loaf, leaving a 1-inch-thick shell. Reserve soft center of bread loaf for other uses or discard.
  • Drizzle 2 tablespoons vinaigrette evenly in bottom bread shell; layer with half of turkey, peppers, and cheese. Repeat layers, and top with bacon. Drizzle evenly with remaining 2 tablespoons vinaigrette, and cover with reserved bread top; press down firmly.
  • Wrap in plastic wrap, and chill at least 1 hour or up to 8 hours before serving. Cut into 4 wedges. Garnish, if desired.

Upgrade your typical BLT with this grilled version, jazzed up with turkey and melted Cheddar cheese. Prepared dressing and cooked turkey breast make it go together fast.

2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon ranch dressing
8 slices soft Italian bread (about 1/2 inch thick)
4 oz shaved cooked turkey breast (from deli)
4 slices cooked bacon, halved
4 slices tomato, halved
2 slices (1 oz each) Cheddar cheese, halved
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened

Steps:

  • In small bowl, mix mayonnaise and dressing. Spread on one side of each slice of bread. Top each of 4 bread slices with turkey, bacon, tomato, cheese and remaining bread slices, mayonnaise mixture side down.
  • Spread butter on one side of each sandwich. In 12-inch skillet, place sandwiches, butter side down. Spread butter over top of each sandwich. Cover; cook over medium-low heat 6 to 8 minutes or until bottoms are golden brown.
  • Turn sandwiches; cover and cook 5 to 6 minutes longer or until bottoms are golden brown and cheese is melted.

2 tablespoons mayonnaise
4 ounces sliced or shaved deli turkey
4 slices Provolone cheese ((or your favorite sliced cheese))
Green leaf lettuce
2 slices fresh tomatoes
Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Lay out all ingredients. Spread mayonnaise on bread slices and layer one slice with sliced turkey, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, salt and pepper, and any other additional toppings.

1/2 cup peach preserves
1 tablespoon horseradish
6 slices havarti cheese
2 lbs roasted turkey, sliced
6 bacon, slices cooked
2 cups arugula, loosely packed
1/4 cup Dijon mustard, whole grain

Steps:

  • Combine the peach preserves and horseradish. Spread on 1 side of 6 sliced croissants.
