BETTER THAN BEEF TURKEY BURGERS

Better Than Beef Turkey Burgers image

I had been looking for a recipe for a delicious, juicy turkey burger for a long time. By combining what I liked best from my 3 favorites I finally have a winning recipe. Cooked on the grill, even the most devoted beef burger fan will have to admit that these are fantastic.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/3 cup(s) uncooked oatmeal
1 1/4 pound(s) ground turkey
1 large egg
1 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
1 teaspoon(s) onion powder
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) black pepper
1/8 cup(s) ketchup
1 clove(s) finely chopped garlic
1 teaspoon(s) paprika

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients in a large ziplock bag. Mix until just incorporated.
  • Form into 4 large patties or 6 small patties and place on squares of waxed paper. (Mixture will be very soft.)
  • Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes. Please don't skip this step. This allows the oatmeal to hydrate and firms up the patties.
  • Heat grill to medium. When hot, place patties on non-stick aluminum foil. Cook until deep grill marks form and then flip. Do not try to flip them sooner or they could break apart. Continue to cook on second side until you see nice, dark grill marks. Do not over cook. You want them to be moist. Only flip once.
  • Remove from grill, cover with foil and let them rest for a few minutes while you toast the buns on the grill. Serve with lettuce, tomato, red onion, ketchup, mustard, mayo or Thousand Island dressing.

Time 35m

Yield 12 Patti's, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 1/2 lbs ground turkey
3 beef bouillon cubes (dissolved in about 1/4 cup boiling water)
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons garlic powder
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons pepper
1 cup breadcrumbs

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a bowl (Use your fingers, it works the best!). Add more bouillon if you like a stronger beef flavor. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to soak all the flavor.
  • Take wax paper, parchment paper or foil and cut 12 square shaped pieces.
  • Lay the wax paper down on the counter, and make a patty from the meat and place on top, layer another sheet and patty up to 2 patties. I made 12 patties, but you can make bigger ones than I did.
  • Place remaining patties and wax paper in a gallon sized freezer bag. Freeze nicely for up to a month. Pull them out as needed. Great grilled or even just placed in the broiler.
  • Cooking time is about 10-15 minutes.
