PECAN PIE SURPRISE BARS (PILLSBURY BAKE-OFF WINNER)
This is the 1971 winner of the Pillsbury Bake-Off. It was created by Pearl Hall of Washington. It's described as "delicious as pecan pie" only easier to make and much more portable to eat in bar form.

Steps:
- Heat oven to 350.
- Grease 13 x 9 inch pan.
- Reserve 2/3 cup of the dry cake mix for filling.
- In a large bowl, combine remaining dry cake mix, margarine and 1 egg at low speed until well blended.
- Press in bottom of greased pan.
- Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes or until light golden brown.
- In large bowl, combine reserved 2/3 cup dry cake mix, brown sugar, corn syrup, vanilla and 3 eggs at low speed until moistened.
- Beat 1 minute at medium speed or until well blended.
- Pour filling mixture over warm base; sprinkle with pecans.
- Bake an additional 30-35 minutes or until filling is set.
- Cool completely.
- Cut into 36 bars.
- Store in refrigerator.
EASY CHEESE BATTER BREAD (A PILLSBURY BAKE-OFF WINNER)
This hearty casserole bread was a prize winner in the 23rd Bake-Off contest in the early 70's. The moist and chewy bread is even better the second day! *Cooking time(passive time) includes time for bread to rise twice.

Steps:
- Generously grease 1 1/2 or 2 quart casserole dish or 9x5" loaf pan.
- Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off.
- In large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, cheese, sugar,salt and yeast; blend well.
- In small saucepan, heat milk and margarine until very warm (120 to 130 degrees F.).
- Add warm liquid and eggs to flour mixture.
- Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 3 minutes at medium speed.
- By hand, stir in remaining 1 cup flour.
- Cover loosely with plastic wrap and cloth towel.
- Let rise in warm place (80 to 85 degrees F.) until light and doubled in size, about 45-60 minutes.
- Stir down dough to remove all air bubbles. Turn into prepared casserole dish.
- Cover; let rise in warm place until ight and doubled in size, 20-25 minutes.
- Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Uncover dough.
- Bake 40-45 minutes or until deep golden brown.
- Remove from casserole dish immediately; cool on wire rack.

SPICY APPLE TWISTS

- Heat oven to 425°F. Cut each apple into 8 wedges. In medium bowl, blend flour and salt. Using pastry blender or fork, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle flour mixture with water 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing lightly with fork until dough is just moist enough to hold together. Shape dough into ball.On floured surface, roll dough lightly from center to edge into 12-inch square. Spread with 1 tablespoon softened margarine. Fold 2 sides to center. Roll to 16 x 10-inch rectangle. Cut crosswise into sixteen 10-inch strips. Wrap 1 strip around each apple wedge. Place 1/2 inch apart in ungreased 13 x 9-inch pan. Brush each wrapped apple wedge with melted margarine. In small bowl, blend sugar and cinnamon sprinkle over wrapped apples.Bake at 425°F. for 20 minutes. Pour water into pan. Bake an additional 12 to 17 minutes or until golden brown. Spoon sauce in pan over twists. Serve warm or cool, plain or with whipped cream. CHERRY MALTED COOKIES (PILLSBURY BAKE-OFF WINNER)
From the 1953 Pillsbury Bake-off Cookbook (4th Grand National). You can replace some or all of the shortening with unsalted butter. If using plain malted milk powder, add 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa. For a variation, add 1 cup chopped black walnuts.

- Adjust oven rack to middle position, preheat to 375°F, and line two baking sheets with parchment. In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, malted milk powder, salt, cinnamon, and baking soda.
- In a large bowl, if using a hand mixer, or in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat butter and sugar until soft and light, about 1-2 minutes. Add egg and continue beating until smooth, then add vanilla and cherry syrup and beat a minute more, pausing to scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed. Resume mixing on low, add flour, brown sugar, malted milk powder, salt, cinnamon, and baking soda. When fully incorporated, stir in chopped cherries.
- Drop by rounded teaspoons onto prepared baking sheets. Bake cookies one sheet at a time until puffed and just set around the edges, but still soft in the middle, about 12 minutes. Cool directly on the baking sheet until firm, then transfer to wire rack to cool.
