1 hoagie roll (8-inches long and 3 1/2 inches wide)
4 teaspoons good quality olive oil
1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
1/3 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
1 medium ripe tomatoes, very thinly sliced
2 ounces thin-sliced boiled ham
1 ounce thin-sliced sopressata
2 ounces thin-sliced provolone cheese
1 ounce thin-sliced prosciutto
1 ounce thin-sliced genoa salami
2 ounces thin-sliced capicola
1/4 cup marinated hot peppers (or any bottled peppers of you choice, Mancini Fried peppers are recommended) or 1/4 cup marinated sweet pepper (or any bottled peppers of you choice, Mancini Fried peppers are recommended)
1/4 cup thinly sliced purple onion

Steps:

  • **Pick your favorite bottled pepper product.
  • Cut the bread in half lengthwise; open it on the counter.
  • Pull out some of the interior; sprinkle the oil and vinegar over the cut side of each half; distribute evenly.
  • Lay the lettuce on one of the halves; spread it out evenly.
  • Top with 2 thin layers of tomato slices (reserve remaining tomato slices); season with salt and pepper.
  • Layer the meat and cheese, making sure each layer is distributed evenly along the length and width of the bread half.
  • Layer in the following order: the ham, the sopressata, 1 ounce provolone, the prosciutto, the remaining provolone, the Genoa salami, and the cappicola.
  • Top meats with the peppers and onion; spread them out evenly.
  • Top with 2 thin layers of thin tomato slices.
  • Season tomato with salt and pepper.
  • Lay the second half of bread on top of the hoagie; cut in half crosswise and serve.

1/2 lb sliced salami (ripped or cut into bite size pieces)
1/2 lb sliced ham (ripped or cut into bite size pieces)
1/2 lb sliced mortadella (ripped or cut into bite size pieces)
1/2 lb sliced capicola (ripped or cut into bite size pieces)
1 lb sliced American cheese (ripped or cut into bite size pieces)
2 cups of hellman's mayonnaise
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 white onion (chopped)
1/2 head iceberg lettuce (shredded)
2 tomatoes (diced)
12 hoagie rolls (cut or torn into very small pieces for dipping)

Steps:

  • Combine all of the meat and cheese into a large bowl and mix well.
  • In a seperate bowl combine the mayo and oregano and mix well.
  • Then add the mayo mixture to the meats and cheese add the onion and combine all together until well mixed.
  • Chill for at least one hour.
  • before serving add lettuce and tomatoes all over the top of the dip.

The word Hoagie came from the sandwiches that used to get eaten by workers over on a place that was nicknamed "hog island" The workers there would bring crusty rolls with Italian meats and some olive oil and they became known as "hoggies" which eventually morphed into hoagie... Now that I've sounded like a Cliff Claven... the only other thing I have to say is don't make this with a soft roll! It has to be a GOOD crusty Italian Long Roll!

2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 hoagie rolls
1/4 lb prosciutto di Parma, thinly sliced
1/4 lb capicola, thinly sliced
1/4 lb genoa salami or 1/4 lb soprassata salami, thinly sliced
1/4 lb provolone cheese
1 large tomatoes, thinly sliced
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1/8 cup shredded lettuce

Steps:

  • Slice the rolls, but not all the way through.
  • Place the vinegar and oregano in a small bowl. Slowly whisk in the oil until emulsified.
  • Remove some of the bread from the center of each half of roll.(if desired)
  • Drizzle a little of the olive oil mixture on the bread.
  • Place first the meats, then the cheese in layers.
  • Top with the tomatoes, onions, then the lettuce. Drizzle with more of the dressing, as desired.
