This recipe appeared about 30 years ago in Family Circle magazine: Cinnamon-sugar "frosts" the tops of these big old-fasioned puffs. They are soft and a bit cakelike and puff up high in the center. I have added chocolate chips to these sometimes too and they were quite nice like that as well :-)

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup sour cream (8 ounce carton)
cinnamon sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Measure flour, salt, baking powder, and soda into a sifter.
  • Cream butter or margarine with sugar until well blended in a large bowl: beat in eggs and vanilla.
  • Sift in flour mixture, adding alternately with sour cream to make a thick batter.
  • Drop by by rounded Tablespoonfuls, 4 inches apart, on greased cookie sheets; spread into 2 inch rounds; sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
  • Bake in hot oven (400°F) 12 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges.
  • Remove from cookie sheets; cool completely on wire racks.

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 c flour
1 1/2 c sugar
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 c sour cream
1/2 c butter, room temperature
cinnamon-sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Measure flour, salt, baking powder and soda. Cream butter with sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift in flour mixture; adding alternately with sour cream and blending well to make a think batter.
  • 2. Drop by medium tablespoonfuls 4" apart, on greased cookie sheet. Spread into 2" rounds. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  • 3. Bake in 400 degree oven for 12 minutes or until likely golden around edges. Cool completely on wire racks.
