SWEET AND SMOKY BARBEQUE SAUCE

Sweet and Smoky Barbeque Sauce image

Use this toward the end of cooking as you would for any BBQ meat such as pork, ribs, or chicken. I have even used it on beef and hamburgers, sausages, hot dogs, or anything you want, for the most part. I use it on everything from ribs to roasts to hamburgers to hot dogs. Even goes good with a good old classic grilled cheese sandwich. This is a great all-round BBQ sauce. Use right away or cool to room temperature, transfer to jars or containers, and refrigerate. The sauce will keep for several months in the fridge.

Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 15

1/2 c onions, vidalia, peeled
2 Tbsp butter, room temperature
1 1/2 c ketchup
1/4 c chili sauce
4 Tbsp brown sugar
4 Tbsp molasses
2 1/2 Tbsp yellow mustard
1 Tbsp lemon juice, fresh
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp liquid smoke flavoring
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp black pepper, fine ground
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Put the finely chopped onion and butter in a skillet and brown the vidalia.
  • 2. While the onion is browning, mix all remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  • 3. After the onion is browned, add the remaining ingredients to the browned onion. Saute the mixture on "low" heat for 20 minutes.
  • 4. Lastly, as the sauce simmers, you can taste test to see if you prefer more "cayenne pepper." I usually use 1/2 tsp or a smidge more for my personal taste.
