2 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 can (28 oz) Muir Glen™ organic diced tomatoes
1 can (16 oz) chili beans in sauce, undrained
1 can (15 oz) Muir Glen™ organic tomato sauce
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In 12-inch skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is brown; drain.
  • In 4- to 5-quart slow cooker, mix beef mixture and remaining ingredients.
  • Cover and cook on Low heat setting 6 to 8 hours.

1 pound ground turkey
1 cup chopped onion
¾ cup chopped green bell pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
2 (14.5 ounce) cans red kidney beans, undrained
1 (16 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
2 teaspoons chili powder
½ teaspoon dried basil
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir turkey, onion, bell pepper, and garlic together in the hot skillet until the turkey is completely browned, 5 to 7 minutes; transfer to the crock of a slow cooker.
  • Stir kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, basil, salt, and black pepper into the turkey mixture.
  • Cook on Low for 4 hours.
