This is a yumy asian round steak recipe that is made in the crockpot. My family enjoys this recipe. Adapted from Simple & Delicious.

2 lbs boneless beef top round steaks, cut into strips
1 cup chopped onion
3 celery ribs, chopped
1/4 cup light soy sauce
1 teaspoon sugar or 1 teaspoon Splenda sugar substitute
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 medium green peppers, cut in strips
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (14 ounce) can bean sprouts, rinsed and drained
1 (8 ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained
1 (4 1/2 ounce) jar sliced mushrooms, drained
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 cup cold water

Steps:

  • Place steak in crock pot.
  • Combine celery, soy sauce, sugar, salt, garlic, ginger and pepper and pour over meat.
  • Cook on low 4 to 6 hours or until meat is tender.
  • Add peppers, tomato sauce, bean sprouts, water chestnuts and mushrooms.
  • Cook on low 1 hour longer.
  • In a bowl, combine cornstarch and water until smooth and stir into beef mixture.
  • Cook on high for 30 minutes or until gravy is thickened.
  • We like to serve over rice.

PLAN/PURCHASE
THE TOP ROUND
2 lb top round roast, thinly sliced against the grain
1/2 md yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 c beef stock, not broth
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
THE SAUCE
1/4 c broth from the slow cooker
1/2 c coconut sugar
1/2 c tamari sauce
2 tsp ginger, freshly grated (or 1 teaspoon ginger powder)
2 clove garlic, minced
2 Tbsp sesame oil
ADDITIONAL ITEMS
long-grain white rice for serving
sesame seeds, for garnish
green onions, chopped, for garnish

Steps:

  • 1. PREP/PREPARE
  • 2. THE TOP ROUND
  • 3. Gather your ingredients. (mise en place).
  • 4. Add the onions to the bottom of the slow cooker, and then add the sliced beef.
  • 5. Mix the beef stock with the Worcestershire, and pour over the beef.
  • 6. Cook on high setting for 2.5 to 3 hours, or low setting for 4 to 5 hours.
  • 7. Chef's Tip: Go sit down and read a book, or take a nap.
  • 8. THE SAUCE
  • 9. Gather your ingredients.
  • 10. Place all of the ingredients; including 1/4 cup of broth from the slow cooker, into a saucepan.
  • 11. Bring the liquid to a simmer, and continue simmering for about 10 minutes.
  • 12. PLATE/PRESENT
  • 13. Place some nice steamy rice in a bowl, add a few slices of yummy beef, and drizzle with the sauce. Add some sesame seeds, and green onions on top for a garnish. Enjoy.
