2 tbsp sesame oil
1 lime , 1/2 juiced, 1/2 cut into wedges to serve
¼ red cabbage , shredded
½ red chilli , thinly sliced
1 yellow pepper , cut into strips
100g beansprouts (make sure they are the ready-to-eat variety)
30g peanuts , toasted and roughly chopped
2 x 2cm-thick tuna steaks
2 tbsp sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Mix together the sesame oil and lime juice with some seasoning, then toss with the red cabbage, chilli, yellow pepper, beansprouts and peanuts.
  • Heat a non-stick frying pan until searing hot. Season the tuna steaks on both sides and turn them in the sesame seeds to coat. Fry for 3 mins each side until the tuna is browned and a sesame crust has formed, but the fish is still pink in the middle. Leave to rest for a few mins, then serve with the slaw and lime wedges for squeezing over.

3 lbs tuna steaks
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup rice wine vinegar
2 garlic cloves, crushed and minced finely
1/4 inch fresh ginger, grated
black pepper
chili pepper flakes

Steps:

  • Put all marinade ingredients into a zip-lock bag shake and add tuna.
  • Zip and chill for 2 hours.
  • Place steaks on a clean, hot, oiled, grill. And marinade in pot and reduce to half.
  • And turn after 3 minutes and cook for three more minutes. Place on serving dish and pour reduced marinade over steaks.

  • Coat a stove-top grill pan, griddle or skillet with cooking spray and preheat to medium-high. Season tuna steaks all over with salt and black pepper.   • For the salsa:

1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper

Grilled flank steak with a wonderful Asian marinade! A friend from Minneapolis emailed me this recipe, knowing I would like it, and she was right! Prep time does not include 6 hour or overnight marinating time.

2 (1 1/2 lb) flank steaks, trimmed of all excess fat
6 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup toasted sesame oil, divided
cooking oil, for greasing grill
2 bunches green onions
kosher salt
3 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted (see Note)

Steps:

  • Place steaks in shallow nonreactive dish, which will hold them comfortably in a single layer.
  • In small bowl, whisk together vinegar, soy sauce and 6 tablespoons of the sesame oil.
  • Pour marinade over the meat.
  • Cover and refrigerate 6 hours or overnight, turning several times.
  • When ready to cook, lightly oil grill rack and arrange 5 inches from heat source.
  • Cut off root ends and all but 4 inches from green stems of green onions.
  • Place onions in shallow dish and brush all over with remaining 2 tablespoons of the sesame oil.
  • Set aside.
  • When grill is hot, remove steaks from marinade.
  • Lightly pat dry with paper towels.
  • Place steaks on grill and cook 5 to 6 minutes per side for medium-rare.
  • When done, place on platter and cover lossely with aluminum foil to keep warm.
  • Grill green onions, turning them until slightly charred, 3 to 5 minutes.
  • To serve, slice meat diagonally across the grain into 1/4-inch-thick slices.
  • Arrange meat and grilled onions on serving platter and season with salt to taste.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Note: To toast sesame seeds, place them in medium skillet over medium heat.
  • Toast, stirring, until seeds are golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Remove and cool.

2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds

Steps:

  • In ziploc baggie, combine first 5 ingredients.
  • Add steaks, turn bag over and over to coat both sides of each steak well.

  • Heat broiler, remove steaks from bag saving marinade.

  • Spoon half of the marinade on steaks.

  • Combine the sesame seeds and 1 tablespoon of the sesame oil in a bowl.Coat the tuna steaks in the sesame seed mixture. Heat a heavy bottomed sauté pan over high heat and add 1 tbsp. of sesame oil till very hot. Place each ahi tuna steak in the heated pan using tongs, and sear each side for no more than 30 seconds. 4 Tbl. soy sauce, i always use low-sodium
4 Tbl. hoisin, the dark thick brown kind (do not buy the red thin kind it's awful)
2 Tbl. dark sesame oil
2 tsp. chili-garlic sauce, in the aisian aisle or by the ketchups, etc.
4 minced garlic cloves
2 tender t-bones or porterhouse steaks, 1" thick or more
2 tsp. toasted sesame seeds
a little fresh chopped parsley for ganish, optional

Steps:

  • 1. In ziploc baggie, combine first 5 ingredients. Add steaks, turn bag over and over to coat both sides of each steak well. Marinate in fridge for 30 minutes to overnight. Heat broiler, remove steaks from bag saving marinade. Place steaks on lightly geased broiler pan. Spoon half of the marinade on steaks. Broil 4-6 inches from heat for 4 minutes. Turn steaks over, top with rest of marinade, and broil 4-5 minutes longer for medium rare. Plate, and sprinkle with sesame seeds and parsley. *Let rest 5 minutes before eating. You can also slice this thinly and serve over rice or make wraps. These can also be cooked on a grill. Be sure to oil grate(s) first so the steaks don't stick. wasabi paste

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, stir together the soy sauce, mirin, honey and sesame oil. Divide into two equal parts. Stir the rice vinegar into one part and set aside as a dipping sauce.
  • Spread the sesame seeds out on a plate. Coat the tuna steaks with the remaining soy sauce mixture, then press into the sesame seeds to coat.
  • Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet over high heat until very hot. Place steaks in the pan, and sear for about 30 seconds on each side.
