6 tablespoons butter or 6 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons seasoning salt
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
3 cups Corn Chex
3 cups Rice Chex
3 cups Wheat Chex
1 cup mixed nuts
1 cup pretzel
1 cup bite-size garlic bagel chips or 1 cup regular-size bagel chips, broken into 1-inch pieces

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 250 degrees.
  • Melt butter in large roasting pan in oven. Stir in seasonings. Gradually stir in remaining ingredients until evenly coated.
  • Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool. Store in airtight container.

Homemade Chex® Party Mix image

This homemade snack mix recipe my mom has had since it originated in the 1940s. This was always a holiday favorite at our house. So much better than the newer versions with a richer flavor with the extra butter. This is a very hard-to-find recipe so I thought I'd share. Great to put in tins and give away. I always quadruple the recipe and store extra in freezer. Store in an airtight container or large zip-top bags.

1 pound butter
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon celery salt
4 cups crispy rice cereal squares (such as Rice Chex™)
4 cups crispy wheat cereal squares (such as Wheat Chex™)
4 cups crispy corn cereal squares (such as Corn Chex™)
4 cups toasted oat cereal (such as Cheerios™)
1 pound mixed nuts
1 (12 ounce) package thin pretzel sticks

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C).
  • Melt butter, Worcestershire, garlic salt, and celery salt over low heat in a medium saucepan until butter has dissolved, 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Combine rice cereal, wheat cereal, corn cereal, oat cereal, mixed nuts, and pretzel sticks in a large mixing bowl. Pour butter mixture over and gently stir to coat all of the pieces. Transfer mixture to a large roasting pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden, about 2 hours, stirring gently every 15 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool completely, about 1 hour. Store in airtight containers.

3 cups Corn Chex™ cereal
3 cups Rice Chex™ cereal
3 cups bite-size cheese crackers
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
4 cups kettle-cooked salt and vinegar potato chips

Steps:

  • In large microwavable bowl, mix cereals and crackers; set aside. In small microwavable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on High about 45 seconds or until melted. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder and onion powder. Pour over cereal mixture; stir until evenly coated.
  • Microwave uncovered on High 5 to 6 minutes, thoroughly stirring every 2 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool, about 15 minutes. In large bowl or resealable food-storage plastic bag, gently toss together cereal mixture and potato chips. Store in airtight container.
