RUBY RED MARGARITAS

Kosher or margarita salt (See Test Kitchen Tip for rimming glasses)
1 can frozen limeade concentrate (12 oz.)
2 cups ice cubes
1/2 cup tequila
1 cup club soda
1 1/3 cups ruby red grapefruit juice
Lime slices

Steps:

  • Rim the edges of four glasses with salt.
  • Blend limeade concentrate, ice cubes, and tequila in a blender until smooth. Divide mixture evenly among prepared glasses. Top each drink with 1/4 cup club soda and 1/3 cup grapefruit juice. Garnish each drink with a lime slice.

Salty, Sweet, Sour, and maybe even a little cheeky. The margarita salt mixed with crystallized ginger gives it an added kick.

2 ounces silver tequila
1 ounce Grand Marnier
1/2 lime, juice of
1/2 grapefruit, juice of, ruby red
1 ounce margarita mix or 1 ounce sour mix
1/4 cup kosher salt
1 tablespoon crystallized ginger

Steps:

  • Fill a pint glass or a hurricane glass full of ice.
  • Add Tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice, grapefruit juice and margarita mix.
  • Pour into blender and quickly pulse it twice on "chop". You don't want to fully blend it, just chop up the ice a bit and incorporate.
  • Salted Rim:.
  • Finely chop the crystallized ginger and add to kosher salt. Mix thoroughly. Dip glass in sweetened lime juice and then into ginger salt mixture.

This margarita recipe was given to me by a friend who tells me they are delicious! I have not tried them yet, but plan to soon.

1 slice ruby red grapefruit (wedge )
kosher salt
6 ounces tequila
1/3 cup ruby red grapefruit vodka
1/4 cup simple syrup
1 cup ruby red grapefruit juice (fresh squeezed or from a carton)
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
4 cups ice cubes

Steps:

  • Use the wedge of grapefruit to rub the rims of 6 margarita glases with grapefruit juice.
  • Dip the rims in the kosher salt to coat.
  • Set glasses aside.
  • Place the tequila, vodka, simple syrup, grapefruit juice, lime juice and ice in a bar blender and puree until smooth.
  • Divide the margarita between 6 glasses and garnish with grapefruit quarters.

1 lime wedge
Coarse salt for coating the rim of the glass
1 jigger (1 1/2 ounces) tequila
3 tablespoons fresh pink grapefruit juice (preferably ruby red)
1 pony (1 ounce) orange-flavored liqueur
1/2 teaspoon superfine sugar if desired
Garnish: 1 quarter of a slice of ruby red grapefruit

Steps:

  • Rub the rim of a cocktail glass with the lime wedge, dip it in the salt, coating it lightly, and chill the glass.
  • In a blender, blend tequila, grapefruit juice, liqueur, sugar and 1 cup ice cubes for 30 seconds. Pour the drink into the glass, and garnish it with the grapefruit slice.

4 ounces tequila
2 jalapeno peppers, quartered and seeded
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon coarse sugar
1 cup ruby red grapefruit juice
1/2 cup simple syrup

Steps:

  • Place tequila and jalapenos in a small bowl. Let stand 2-3 hours., Using water, moisten the rims of four margarita or cocktail glasses. Mix salt and sugar on a plate; hold each glass upside down and dip rim into salt mixture. Set aside. Discard remaining salt mixture on plate., Strain tequila into a small bowl, discarding jalapenos. Stir in grapefruit juice and simple syrup. Serve in prepared glasses over ice.
