ROBERT'S FAMOUS BAKED BEANS



Robert's Famous Baked Beans image

I've always been a fan of any kind of beans, especially baked beans, so I decided to come up with my own version.

31 ounces canned pork and beans
1/2 cup barbecue sauce, your choice (KC Masterpiece is good)
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup brown sugar
6 slices bacon
salt
pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Combine all ingredients except bacon and pour Into a 9x13 inch casserole dish, Lay bacon on top of bean mixture in a criss-cross pattern. Bake for 30 minutes or until bacon is done and beans are hot and bubbly. A great side dish for barbequed ribs or brisket.

Aunt Ro's Baked Beans image

This is my Aunt Ro's recipe for baked beans. It's closer to chili than baked beans, and it's great for a potluck or BBQ.

8 ounces bacon
1 pound ground beef
½ cup chopped onion
2 (12 ounce) cans pinto beans, drained and rinsed
2 (15.5 ounce) cans canned butter beans, drained and rinsed
2 (15 ounce) cans canned baked beans with pork
1 cup barbeque sauce
1 cup ketchup
1 cup brown sugar, packed

Steps:

  • Place the bacon in a large, deep skillet and cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Drain on paper towels, crumble, and set aside. Drain bacon fat from the skillet.
  • Using the same skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat, stirring until the meat is no longer pink, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain.
  • Transfer the ground beef to a slow cooker. Add the pinto beans, butter beans, baked beans with pork, barbeque sauce, ketchup, and brown sugar to the ground beef mixture; stir to blend well. Cover and cook for 4 hours on High. Top each serving with crumbled bacon.

1 pound dried navy beans
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
4 quarts cold water, divided
1 cup chopped red onion
1/2 cup molasses
6 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, bring beans, salt and 2 qt. water to a boil; boil for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat; let stand for 1 hour. Drain beans and discard liquid. Return beans to pan. Cover with remaining water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1-1/2 to 2 hours or until beans are tender. Drain, reserving liquid. In a greased 2-1/2 qt. baking dish, combine beans, 1 cup liquid, onion, molasses, bacon, brown sugar, mustard and pepper. Cover and bake at 325° for 3 to 3-1/2 hours or until beans are as thick as desired thickness, stirring occasionally. Add more of the reserved cooking liquid if needed.

I've been experimenting with making homemade baked beans for cookouts and such. Well this has got to be the best so far.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 lb pinto beans -- dried
1 bottle guinness stout
1 (15 oz) can(s) beef broth
1 clove roasted garlic -- minced
1 Tbsp chili powder
1/2 lb smoked bacon -- fried and crumbled
1 medium vidalia onion -- diced
1 medium red bell pepper -- diced
1 medium green bell pepper -- diced
1 bottle sweet baby ray's bbq sauce
1 (15 oz) can(s) tomato sauce
1/3 c brown sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Cook your Pinto Beans in Crock Pot with the beer, beef broth, garlic, and chili powder until done and then drain your juices off beans.
  • 2. Fry bacon in skillet until done and then crumbled.
  • 3. Mix beans, bacon, bbq sauce, tomato sauce, brown sugar, onion, and bell pepper.
  • 4. After all is mixed well; then add to casserole pan and bake in oven until all the flavors combine.
