This is a delicious apple cobbler. My son often requests it instead of cake as a birthday dessert!

6 large Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ cup water

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Combine 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  • Layer apples in an ungreased 9x13-inch baking pan, sprinkling each layer with cinnamon-sugar.
  • Combine flour, 1 cup sugar, egg, and baking powder with a fork. Sprinkle over apples. Lightly sprinkle water over top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until topping is golden brown, about 30 minutes.

2 red apples, cored and sliced
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 cup butter
1 package pie dough (recommended: Pillsbury)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Saute the apples in a medium pan over low heat with the brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and butter until the apples become tender. Place in small ramekin and cover it with a piece of dough to fit over the top of the ramekin. Cut off excess dough. Place the ramekin in a small water bath (a skillet with about a 1/4-inch of water), and bake for 35 minutes or until crust in golden brown.

4 large tart apples, peeled and sliced
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Dash ground cloves
2 tablespoons cold butter
TOPPING:
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup shortening
3 tablespoons 2% milk
1 large egg
Optional: vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, combine sugars, flour, cinnamon and cloves. Add apples and toss to coat. Transfer to a greased 8-in. square baking dish. Dot with butter. , In another bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl, whisk milk and egg; stir into flour mixture just until moistened. Drop by tablespoonfuls over apple mixture. Bake until topping is golden brown and filling is bubbly, 35-40 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or heavy cream and sprinkle with cinnamon, if desired.
