Winner Of The State Fair Cookie image

I entered this chocolate chip cookie in the Wyoming State Fair when I lived there and won 1st place on these cookies. It makes a ton of cookies but that gives you enough to share. I use them for cookie exchanges and taking them to work. I freeze them and they taste as good when you thaw them as they did the day you baked them. I put a bunch of them on every cookie tray I give to neighbors at Christmas time.

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cup(s) shortening
2 cup(s) sugar
1 cup(s) brown sugar
4 - eggs
4 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
4 cup(s) all purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon(s) salt
2 teaspoon(s) baking soda
2 - 12 ounce packages chocolate chips
2 cup(s) nuts (optional)

Steps:

  • Cream together shortening, sugars, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy. Whisk together dry ingredients and mix into creamed mixture blending well. Add chocolate chips (I use semisweet or dark chocolate) and nuts. You can also add crushed candy canes at Christmas time.
  • Drop from teaspoons 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. You can also use parchment paper or the dull side of aluminum foil and you don't have to grease it.. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from pan immediately. If you use foil or parchment paper you can lift them straight to the counter top with no mess. Don't drop them! Eat two and repeat.
