WHOOPIE PIES (TRACEY) image

Yield 16 pies

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 cup cocoa
4-1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 egg yolks
1 cup sour milk (cover bottom of cup w/vinegar to make it sour)
1 cup hot water
Filling:
2 egg whites beaten
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons milk
4 cups 10x sugar
1-1/2 cups shortening

Steps:

  • For 1st set of ingredients, combine and mix ingredients, drop on greased cookie sheet by teaspoon full. Bake 400 degrees for 8 minutes For filling: Beat egg whites with mixer. Add other ingredients, beat at medium speed after each addition. Spread over half the amount of baked cookies and cover with another half.
