WHOLE-WHEAT BUTTERHORNS image

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 1/2-3/4 C unbleached flour
2 pkgs. active, dry yeast
1 3/4 C water
1/3 C packed brown sugar
3 T oil
2 T honey
2T salt
2 C whole wheat blour
6 T butter softened
1/2 C nuts (your choice) optional

Steps:

  • 1. In a large mixing bowl combine flour and yeast. 2. In saucepan, heat water, sugar, oil, honey, and salt to 120 degrees, 3. Add to flour and yeast 4. Use electric mixer or food processor to mix. 5. Add the rest of hte flour and the whole wheat flour until you get a moderately stiff dough - not too sticky. 6. On a lightlyl floured surface, knead the dough for 10-12 minutes. 7. Form dough intoa ball, put it in a lightly greased bowl and let rise until it doubles in size (about 2 hours). 8. Punch the dough down 9. Divide into 3 balls and let stand for 10 miniutes. 10. While waiting, combine butter and nuts. 11. Roll out a ball of dough into a 12 inch circle, on floured surface. 12. Take 1/3 of the ubtter mixture and spread over surface of dough. 13. cut dough into 12 triangles. 14. Roll each triangle from the wide end to the narrow end. 15. Put rolls on greased baking sheet, let rise for 1/2 hour. 16. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
