WHOLE-WHEAT APPLE-NUT BREAD image

1-1/2 Cups Flour
2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1-1/2 Cups Whole-Wheat Flour
3/4 Cups Chopped Apples
1 Cup Chopped Pecans or Other Nuts
1 Cup Seedless Raisins
1 Egg, Slightly Beaten
3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
1-1/2 Cups Buttermilk
2 Tablespoons Shortening, Melted

Steps:

  • To sifted flour, add baking powder and soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sift again and add whole-wheat flour, apples, chopped nuts, and raisins. Mix well. To slightly beaten egg, add brown sugar, milk, and melted shortening. Pour into flour mixture and stir just enough to moisten dry ingredients. Don't beat. Turn into greased loaf pan and bake in moderate oven (350) for about 1 hour.
