2 cups self-rising flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup shortening

Steps:

  • Set aside 1/4 cup of the flour.
  • Cut the shortening into the remaining flour.
  • Add the baking soda to the buttermilk, and stir into the flour mixture.
  • Flour a board using the 1/4 cup flour you set aside and knead the dough.
  • Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Cut the dough into shapes with a floured round cutter.
  • Bake at 400 degrees F for about 10-12 minutes (until brown).
