WALNUT WHEAT BREAD image

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup water, 100 to 110 degrees
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon dry yeast
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons walnut oil
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups walnuts, chopped

Steps:

  • Combine to dissolve and proof yeast: 1 cup water, 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1 tablespoon dry yeast. Mix and add to the above: 1 egg slightly beaten, 1 teaspoon salt and 3 tablespoons of walnut oil. Add whole wheat flour and a half of the white flour to the mixture. Beat well. Add walnuts, another cup of flour and mix well. Add remaining flour a little at a time until good consistency is reached. Knead well; let rise until doubled (1 hour). Punch down and let rise a second time, 30 to 35 minutes. Shape bread into small loaves and let rise until doubled. Glaze with mixture of beaten egg and 1 teaspoon salt. Bake at 375 degrees for 16 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
