Utah Funeral Potatoes image

The name comes from this dish being used as a gift to the grieving family at so many funerals, not because it will kill you. But don't save it for a funeral. Try it as a side along with roast ham.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 pkg shredded frozen potatoes
2 c sour cream
2 can(s) cream of celery soup
1 large diced sweet onion
3 c sharp shredded cheese
1 tsp butter
1 c crushed corn flakes or crackers or bread crumbs

Steps:

  • 1. Thaw potatoes. Mix potatoes, sour cream, soup, cheese, and onion. Spread mixture into a large buttered casserole dish. (can be halved for family size) [optional, for spicy version, add one can of green chilies]
  • 2. Top with crumbs or crushed crackers.
  • 3. bake, covered for 45 minutes at 350. removing foil and baking uncovered the last 15 minutes.
