The Very Best Crock Pot Apple Butter image

The original recipe called for 4c of white sugar and no nutmeg or allspice... needless to say it was enough sugar to put you in a coma! I'm eager to try my own spin on the original recipe and will post results. Update: Family and Friends LOVED it!!!

6 lb fuji apples
1 c white sugar
1/2 c dark brown sugar
2 1/2 Tbsp cinnamon
1/4 & 1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp salt
1/4& dash tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp allspice, ground

Steps:

  • 1. Peel, core and finely chop apples and place in crock pot.
  • 2. In medium bowl white sugar, dark brown sugar, cinnamon, ground cloves, salt, nutmeg and allspice. Pour mixture over apples and mix well.
  • 3. Cook on high one hour. Mash with a potato masher 3-5 minutes.
  • 4. Cook on low 6-9 hours, stirring and mashing occasionally until mixture is thickened and dark brownish.
  • 5. Uncover and continue to cook 45 to 60 minutes on low. Mash with potato masher to increase smoothness. Put in immersion blender if necessary.
  • 6. Spoon mixture into sterile containers, cover and refrigerate or freeze.
