Texas Sloppy Joes image

A recipe I found on the "Landolakes.com" website, that I am posting for safe keeping. Sounds delish!!

Number Of Ingredients 12

- 1 pound extra lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- dash(or more) hot sauce, if desired
- 6 slices texas toast bread
- 12 (3/4-ounce) slices deli white american cheese

Steps:

  • Cook ground beef in 12-inch skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Add onion and bell pepper; continue cooking 3-4 minutes or until vegetables are softened. Add all remaining ingredients except bread and cheese. Reduce heat to low; cook 5-10 minutes or until thickened.
  • Heat broiler.
  • Place bread onto ungreased baking sheet; broil 4 to 6 inches from heat, turning once, 4-6 minutes or until toasted. Top each with 1 slice cheese; continue broiling until melted. Top each with 1/2 cup beef mixture and 1 slice cheese; continue broiling 1 minute or until melted. Serve hot.
