SWEET APPLE PICKLES image

This is a very old recipe, from the 1800's -- even older than me!

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 - peck of sweet apples
1/2 gallon sugar
1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
1 teaspoon(s) cloves
1 pint(s) cider vinegar
- cinnamon sticks, if you wish

Steps:

  • Pare, core, and halve the apples.
  • Cover the apples overnight with the sugar.
  • Next morning, set them on the fire, and add the cinnamon and the cloves.
  • Cook the apples until they are easily stuck with a fork.
  • Add the vinegar, and boil another five minutes.
  • Seal in jars while the apples are still very hot.
  • A cinnamon stick can be added to each jar, if you wish.
