Susie's Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza image

This pizza has the perfect homemade crust as a base. It is thick and slightly chewy... just the right texture. Honestly, this does taste like a bacon cheeseburger in pizza form. The "sauce" is what you'd expect to taste on a cheeseburger. It's what makes this pizza a little different. We tried the dill pickles with the pizza and...

PIZZA CRUST
3 c bread flour (or all-purpose)
1 pkg active dry yeast (or 2 1/4 tsp.)
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp salt
1 Tbsp honey
1 c water, warm (110-115 degrees)
TOPPING
1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 small onion, diced
4 slice bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 c mozzarella cheese, shredded (about)
1 c cheddar cheese, shredded (about)
1/2-3/4 c ketchup
1 Tbsp yellow mustard

Steps:

  • 1. To make the crust, add 1 tablespoon honey to one cup of warm water, add the yeast, and wait until foamy (about 5 to 10 min.).
  • 2. Put about 2 cups of the flour and the salt in a medium bowl. Add the 2 tablespoons oil and the yeast mixture. Stir (or use a stand mixer with dough hook) to combine.
  • 3. On a well-floured surface, knead the dough, adding small amounts of flour at a time until dough is smooth and elastic.
  • 4. Set aside. *You do NOT have to let this rise like you do bread, however, it's good to let it "rest" for 5 to 10 min.
  • 5. In a skillet, cook the ground beef & onion together until no longer pink and onion is soft. Drain fat, and set aside. Mix the ketchup and mustard together in a small bowl.
  • 6. Brush vegetable (or olive) oil on a large pizza pan, or use a cookie sheet if you don't have a pizza pan.
  • 7. Pat the dough onto the pizza pan and push towards the edges so that it's thick on the edges and thin in the middle.
  • 8. With a fork, prick the entire bottom of the crust (except the edges) liberally.
  • 9. Place the crust in a preheated oven (375 degrees) for about 12-14 minutes.
  • 10. Remove from oven and brush butter or oil on the edge of crust.
  • 11. Spread the ketchup mixture on the crust and spread with the back of a spoon.
  • 12. Sprinkle on the beef/onion mixture.
  • 13. Then sprinkle with mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. Add the crumbled bacon or bacon bits on top.
  • 14. Put back in the oven for about 10 more minutes until crust is light brown, and cheese has melted.
  • 15. *Note: I don't measure anything when I make this, so my measurements are approximate. I also usually cook a whole pound of hamburger and half of a large onion, and freeze what I don't use for a future pizza. Hey...it saves time! Also, if you like dill pickle on your hamburger, go ahead and add diced dill pickle on top when it comes out of the oven. I've tried it and like it. Experiment!! :)
