SUGAR CREAM PIE (HOOSIER PIE) image

Yield 1 8" pie

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 unbaked, prepared 8 inch pastry shell
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup heavy whipping cream
3/4 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 cup butter, chilled and diced

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (225 degrees C). 2. In a medium bowl, slowly mix together sugar, flour, and cream. Add milk and vanilla extract, and continue to stir gently, to avoid whipping air into the cream, until mixture is smooth. Pour into pastry shell. Sprinkle top with nutmeg and dot evenly with small bits of butter. 3. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake an additional 45 minutes.
