Sourdough Party Cheese Bread image

One of my favorite party breads to make for special occaisions. So much fun to pull the pieces off! Guests can't stop eating the warm bread, gooey cheese and onions! Pure heaven! An old recipe that I tweaked to my own taste. (Photo from Taste of Home)

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (1 lb.) unsliced loaf sourdough bread
1 lb. monterey jack cheese, sliced or grated
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
1-2 tsp. finely minced garlic, or 1/2 tsp. garlic powder, to taste
1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions
2/3 tsp. poppy seeds
dash or 2 of coarse ground pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Cut the bread lengthwise and widthwise without cutting through the bottom crust. Insert cheese between cuts. Combine butter, garlic, onions and poppy seeds; drizzle over the bread. Sprinkle lightly with pepper. Wrap in foil and place on a baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Unwrap, and bake 10 minutes longer or until the cheese is melted. Looks so pretty when it fans out a little! Enjoy!!
