Stove Top Cottage Pie image

Fun Fact: The difference between "cottage pie" and "shepherd's pie", is in the meat. Shepherd's pie is named as such if it contains lamb, and "cottage" usually applies to one made with beef.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
2 c frozen mixed veggies
1 can(s) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 can(s) fill 1/2 the soup can with milk
1 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp beef soup base
3-4 c mashed potatoes
1 c shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet, brown ground beef and onion over medium heat; drain.
  • 2. Stir in the thawed mixed veggies. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook for 5 minutes.
  • 3. Stir together cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic poswer and beef boullion granules until well blended; stir into ground beef mixture. Cook over medium heat; stirring frequently for until well combined.
  • 4. Spread mashed potatoes over the top; sprinkle with cheese. Cover and cook just until potatoes are heated through and cheese is melted.
