Spoonburgers image

Spoon Burgers were popular back in the 30's during the days of the Depression. This is a simple supper and easy on the ol' grocery budget. It was actually a delicious, filling meal!

Number Of Ingredients 14

3 pound(s) chuck, cut into 3/4 inch cubes
1 1/2 cup(s) water
1 tablespoon(s) salt
1/4 cup(s) oil
1 cup(s) chopped onions
2 clove(s) garlic, chopped
2 tablespoon(s) sugar
2 teaspoon(s) paprika
1 teaspoon(s) pepper
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) dry mustard
1/3 cup(s) vinegar
1/3 cup(s) dark molasses
1/4 cup(s) worcestershire sauce
2 can(s) (6 oz) tomato paste

Steps:

  • Combine beef, water, and salt. Simmer covered, until tender.
  • Saute' onion and garlic in oil; add vegetables to oil. Add sugar and remaining ingredients to beef.
  • Cover and simmer for about one hour or until sauce is thick and beef is very tender.
