SPICY STEWED TOFU image

Number Of Ingredients 10

14 oz firm tofu
3 Tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
2 T Ko choo garu (Korean ground chili powder)
1 tsp sesame oil
1 T toasted sesame seeds
1 tsp sugar
1 Tbsp rice vinegar
1 serrano chile, seeded and sliced
3 cloves garlic, mashed to a paste with a bit of salt
4 scallions, sliced on the diagonal

Steps:

  • Slice tofu into 8 slices and then again cross-ways to make 16 squares. Mix together remaining ingredients, except for scallions, in a bowl. Place tofu slices in a medium skillet or saucepan with a lid. Pour sauce over tofu, bring to a simmer, cover and cook on low for 5-7 minutes. Turn over slices of tofu, distributing sauce as much as possible, and add scallions. Cook, covered, for another 5-7 minutes. Chill overnight and serve cold.
