SPICE SHELF SEASONED FLOUR image

If you're like me, you probably have a shelf or drawer full of herbs and spices. This is one way that I make good use of some of them. It's a lightly seasoned flour, despite the numerous ingredients, perfect for coating fried chicken, pork chops and country fried steak, and for making the gravy when you're finished frying. It's also good to use, in place of plain flour, for making batters for fried mushrooms etc...

Number Of Ingredients 14

3 cup(s) all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1 1/4 teaspoon(s) ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon(s) seasoned salt (lawry's)
1/2 teaspoon(s) ground (rubbed) sage
1/4 teaspoon(s) garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) italian herb seasoning
1/4 teaspoon(s) garlic and herb seasoning
1/8 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon(s) poultry seasoning
1/8 teaspoon(s) smoked paprika
1/8 teaspoon(s) cajun seasoning
1 pinch(es) turmeric, ground (about 1/16 teaspoon)
1 pinch(es) cayenne pepper (about 1/16 teaspoon)

Steps:

  • Add all ingredients to a plastic food storage bag or container with tight-fitting lid.
  • Close bag tightly or place lid on container, leaving some airspace; shake well to thoroughly blend seasonings with flour.
  • Label and store as for flour. Use for coating for fried foods and for gravy.
  • ***NOTE: This recipe makes a large amount. Use a portion at a time and NEVER return any of the flour to the container if it has come in contact with raw meat juices or egg.
