Spice cakes are a holiday delight! I make a couple of these each holiday season. They make great gifts for your neighbors or as a great night cap dessert after dinner. Enjoy!

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 16

2 1/2 c all purpose flour
1/4 c cornstarch
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 c milk, whole
3 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 c butter, unsalted, softened
2 c dark brown sugar
1/2 c applesauce
3 Tbsp carmel icecream topping

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and lightly flour a 9x13in. pan. Whisk together the dry ingredients and spices in a large bowl and set aside.
  • 2. In a large mixing bowl on medium high setting beat together the butter, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, and beat until well combined. In a small bowl mix together remaining wet ingredients.
  • 3. Alternately add the wet and dry ingredients to the butter mixture starting and ending with the flour mixture. Continue to beat on medium speed until batter is smooth. Pour into the prepared pan and bake approx. 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before frosting. I prefer to use either a cream cheese frosting or a whipped cream frosting with this recipe. Enjoy!
