SOUTH DALLAS STEAK (FRIED BOLOGNA SANDWICH) image

I am told In Texas a thick cut fried bologna sandwich is called a SOUTH DALLAS STEAK. I got this thick sliced bologna from a little small country store in a little town of Wabbaseka, Arkansas called C & B MARKET, they have the type of bologna that taste like that of yester years as well as Country Bacon. Not only do they sell and cut the Bologna there, they will even make you a nice fried bologna sandwich while you wait, served on bread or a bun with lettuce tomatoes & your favorite condiment. It is so tasty. This is my version of their sandwich. I LOVED fried bologna as a kid & still do.

1 slice(s) thick sliced bologna per person
3 - flat pickles
2 - leaves lettuce
2 slice(s) fresh tomato slices
1 large onion hamburger bun
1 slice(s) sliced cheese
1 slice(s) onion if desred sliced thinly

Steps:

  • These are the ingredients I used but use what you like. Remove the outer casing if not already removed.
  • Spray a non stick skillet lightly with non stick cooking spray. Heat over medium high heat. Add the bologna slice, Make about 3-4 one inch slits on the outer edge of the bologna to prevent it from puckering up while cooking.
  • Brown on one side about 3 to 4 minutes then flip on other side, then add sliced cheese & allow cheese to melt.
  • Spread condiment of choice on both sides of bread if desired, add the lettuce, flat pickles, onions if desired & tomato slices.
  • Add the fried bologna to the prepared bun, and top with other half.
  • Then using a sharp knife, cut sandwich in half and enjoy.
