Sautéed Apple Crisp Recipe image

Make this wintertime favorite dessert on the stove top in just ten short minutes. While the dinner is bubbling and browning in the oven, you can prepare this sweet treat using ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. Crisp and flavorful apples are delicious just as they are, so you do not need to spend a lot of extra time turning them into a dessert. The addition of some light brown sugar, cinnamon, apple cider, and flour creates a warm and welcome treat. Top with ice cream, granola, or whatever you would usually put on top of an apple pie. The apple mixture would be great served over hot oatmeal or as a side at breakfast. This recipe makes 4 servings. Each serving is about 1/2 cup of the apple mixture, 1/4 cup granola, and 1/2 cup ice cream. You can use whatever ice cream flavor you choose, but we recommend classic vanilla or cinnamon. Cinnamon ice cream can sometimes be hard to find but, we assure you, it is well worth the hunt if you can track it down.

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 tablespoons salted butter
2 large peeled and thinly sliced Honeycrisp apples
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup apple cider
1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
1/4 cup maple-pecan granola
Ice cream

Steps:

  • Melt salted butter in a large skillet over medium-high. Add Honeycrisp apples; increase heat to high, and cook until apples begin to soften, about 3 minutes, stirring once. Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon, and cook, stirring occasionally, until sugar melts and apples are tender, about 3 minutes. Whisk together apple cider and flour; add to skillet, and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 1 minute. Divide apple mixture evenly among 4 bowls; sprinkle each with granola, and top with a scoop of vanilla or cinnamon ice cream.
