Red Velvet Cake image

Try out a Southern favorite turned Northern darling, our Red Velvet Cake. The smooth cream cheese frosting makes Red Velvet Cake ever so tantalizing.

1 pkg. (2-layer size) white cake mix
2 oz. BAKER'S Unsweetened Chocolate, melted
1 Tbsp. red food coloring
1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 lb. powdered sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Prepare cake batter and bake as directed on package for 2 (9-inch) round layers, adding melted chocolate and food coloring to dry cake mix along with water, eggs and oil. Cool cakes in pans 10 min. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.
  • Beat cream cheese and butter in large bowl with mixer until blended. Gradually add sugar, beating well after each addition. Stir in nuts.
  • Fill and frost cake layers with cream cheese frosting.
