Pennsylvania Dutch Green Beans image

Yield 4 (1-cup) servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 strips bacon, cooked, crumbled
1 small onion, sliced
1 (8-ounce) can water chestnut, sliced
1 (1-pound) can cut green beans
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon vinegar

Steps:

  • Brown onion and water chestnuts slightly in hot bacon fat. Drain beans, saving 1/2 cup liquid. Mix liquid with remaining ingredients and add to onion in skillet. Cook, stirring until mixture boils. Add beans and heat thoroughly. Serve garnished with crumbled bacon.
