Peanut Butter Cookies image

This recipe comes from the 1941 edition of the New American Cook Book. It makes a moist, chewy peanut butter cookie. In the picture, I garnished with a dusting of white granulated sugar and a Hershey (Special Dark) Kiss.

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 c sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp shortening
1/2 c peanut butter
1 c sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 c milk

Steps:

  • 1. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  • 2. Cream shortening and peanut butter. Beat in other ingredients.
  • 3. Stir in flour, blending well. Chill. Roll out onto 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured board. Cut with cookie cutter. (I roll mine into balls and press a criss-cross pattern into them with a fork)
  • 4. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in oven at 350 for 10 minutes. Yield 40 cookies.
  • 5. Garnish with a Hershey kiss or chopped nuts or granulated sugar.
