OLD-FASHIONED FRIED APPLES image

Another country-style dish, handed down for generations, everyone loves it. It's so simple and has so few ingredients, just apples, butter, cinnamon, brown sugar and a pinch of salt. The hardest part is peeling the apples (AND trying not to eat more than your fair share!)

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 tablespoon(s) butter, divided
4 large apples (such as granny smith, arkansas black, wine sap etc...) peeled, cored & sliced no more than 1/4 inch thick
1 pinch(es) sea salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
2 tablespoon(s) dark brown sugar

Steps:

  • Gather and prep ingredients.
  • Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in nonstick or cast iron skillet over medium/medium high heat.
  • Add sliced apples and pinch of salt; saute (pan fry) stirring & turning apples frequently, but not constantly, until most slices are browned some and have softened (about 10 minutes.)
  • Reduce heat; add cinnamon, remaining tablespoon butter and brown sugar.
  • Stir and cook until brown sugar is dissolved and apples appear reduced in volume (about 2 minutes.)
  • Remove from heat. Serve. Cover and refrigerate leftovers.
