Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- 2. Combine the first four ingredients. Mix with your hands until crumbly. Measure out 1 cup of crumbs and set aside for topping. Pat the rest into the bottom and sides of a 9" deep dish pie plate. Depending on your baking dish, you may not need them all.
- 3. In a large deep saucepan, whisk sugar, cornstarch, water and salt until smooth. Bring to a gentle boil. Then, cook for one minute until thickened. Remove from heat and add apples, vanilla, cinnamon and allspice. Combine gently and pour into crust.
- 4. Top with reserved crumbs.
- 5. Take a piece of aluminum foil and lay it flat on top of the pie. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-55 minutes until apples are tender and crust is golden.
