Nancy Reagan's Brownies image

Good ol' Nancy---back when First Ladies were ladies, indeed! This is my all-time favorite brownie recipe. Republicans are often criticized for wanting the "rich to get richer," and WOW, it doesn't get any richer than these moist, densely-chocolate treats!

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 one-ounce semi-sweet chocolate baking squares
3 one-ounce unsweetened chocolate squares
1 1/2 cups unsalted butter
6 eggs
2 cups sugar
2/3 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate and butter in top of double boiler; cool. Beat eggs and sugar until light. Add to chocolate mixture. Add dry ingredients after blending, stir in vanilla and nuts. Bake in buttered/floured 9" x 13" pan 35 minutes at 350. Cool completely before cutting into squares. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.
