Mom would make these quite often in the winter along with bread, and coffee cakes. I carried on that tradition while my kids were growing up.

Steps:
- Soften yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.
- Combine sugar salt , shortning and milk, cool till Luke warm.
- Add 1 cup flour beat well, Add yeast and 1 egg beating well
- Add remaining flour to form soft dough. Cover let rise till double 1 1/2 -2 hours.
- Mix Cinnamon and sugar for filling, melt butter.
- Divide dough in half, roll out one half of dough to a 16x8 rectangle using half of melted butter spread on dough sprinkle half of the cinnamon and sugar over dough roll up like jelly roll seal edge cut in 1 inch rounds. Repeat with second dough
- In a round cake pan melt 1 /2 of topping ingredients add nuts .
- Place rounds on top of filling. Let rise till double in size bake in 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or tops are brown. Remove from oven turn upside down on wire rack.
