Mom's Hamburger Meat Pie image

My mom has been making this for years and now I make it. It is a family favorite, very tasty! If desired, you can substitute real homemade mashed potatoes with either OreIda or Bob Evans frozen mashed potatoes. Give it a try, I think you'll like it too!

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 pound(s) lean ground beef, cooked & drained
3 tablespoon(s) onion, finely chopped
1 can(s) french-cut geen beans, drained well
1 can(s) tomato soup (10-3/4 oz.)
1 can(s) water
3 cup(s) mashed potatoes
1 - egg, slightly beaten
- salt & pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Brown meat in large skillet w/onion; break it up until fairly fine. When cooked, drain off fat. Spread evenly in square 2 qt casserole.
  • Drain beans well, then evenly distribute over the meat in casserole. In deep bowl, combine the soup with 1 soup can of water, whisk to blend. Pour over the green beans.
  • Prepare mashed potatoes as usual with milk & butter; Salt & pepper to taste. Add the egg and beat until well-combined. If potato mixture is too stiff, add a little more milk until thinned out a little. Carefully spread over the soup layer.
  • Bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes, or until potato topping is lightly browned. Let rest about 5 minutes, then serve with large spoon. This can be made and frozen, wrapped in two layers of foil and sealed well.
